The Insight Community of the Desert Board of Directors and I are deeply grateful for the resilience of the sangha and our teachers when COVID upended our lives. In the transition from in-person gatherings to Zoom programming, we discovered new ways of practicing and sharing together. With your enthusiastic support, we developed a range of new programs: the CARE Group, Karma Café’s teachings on aging, sickness and death, Friday’s metta gathering, the Virtual Art Show, the Book Club, and the Mindful Self-Compassion class.
The Board is pleased to share some good news on ICD’s financial position. Your generosity, expressed through pledges and dana contributions, and the Mindful Self-Compassion retreat/fundraiser has kept our financial status reasonably stable. We are able to meet our ongoing monthly and yearly obligations with only a modest monthly deficit. We have also been able to provide some continued support to our teachers. In gratitude we bow to our blessings for being able to hold our physical and spiritual space.
We acknowledge how devastating the financial impact COVID has been on many families and non-profits. Some of us may also be experiencing dana-fatigue. We hope that those who currently give pledges—annually or monthly—are able to continue their support. Of course, we welcome all contributions; we are simply mindful of the many needs of our community at large.
Looking forward to 2021, we are hopeful that the success of the COVID vaccination will allow us to develop in-person protocols. We will also be evaluating the impact of ZOOM attendance on our space needs as we negotiate an extension of our lease agreement in July. We will keep you updated as to the choices and decisions our community face as we regain some semblance of normalcy.
In closing, ICD’s Board of Directors joins me in wishing you and your dear ones blessings of health, safety, peace and happiness.
Reuel Young, Board President
