PLEASE NOTE: Sunday talks will be held online until further notice.
Beginning March 6th, in each Sunday talk we will investigate one of the Five Precepts, the Buddha’s guidelines for how lay practitioners can live in the world without causing harm and in harmony with others.
The Five Training Precepts
- Not intentionally taking a life;
- Not taking what is not freely given;
- Being wise and careful with my sexuality;
- Being wise and careful with my speech;
- Abstaining from intoxicants which lead to heedlessness.
Sila, or ethical behavior, is part of the Eightfold Path, and training in the precepts are how we put
sila into practice. When practiced in our daily lives, the precepts offer a foundation for a life of integrity which allows us to move towards liberation and makes it safe for others to be around us.
Today we will discuss the Second Precept.
We hope you will join us for these vitally important teachings. Everyone is welcome.
There will be time for meditation, a dharma (teaching) talk by one of our regular or guest teachers, and time for your comments and questions.
Cost: Donation basis; there is no charge to participate. Our center and teachers are supported by your generosity. Please give from your ability and heart.
