DESCRIPTION:This hybrid Sunday Meditation and Dharma Talk will be held simultaneously in-person and live online\, from 4:30 p.m. until 6 p.m. \nBeginning March 6th\, in each Sunday talk we will investigate one of the Five Precepts\, the Buddha’s guidelines for how lay practitioners can live in the world without causing harm and in harmony with others. \nThe Five Training Precepts \n\nNot intentionally taking a life;\nNot taking what is not freely given;\nBeing wise and careful with my sexuality;\nBeing wise and careful with my speech;\nAbstaining from intoxicants which lead to heedlessness.\n\nSila\, or ethical behavior\, is part of the Eightfold Path\, and training in the precepts are how we put sila into practice. When practiced in our daily lives\, the precepts offer a foundation for a life of integrity which allows us to move towards liberation and makes it safe for others to be around us. \nToday we will discuss the Fifth Precept. \nWe hope you will join us for these vitally important teachings. DESCRIPTION:Daylong with Ian Challis\nJoin us at our first in-person Daylong in 2 years!!!\n(Zoom access will also be available for out of town sangha\, and others not able to attend in person) \nMettā is the energy and practice of love\, it offers us a way of being with the unfoldings of life that is kind\, intimate\, and wise. Life is asking us to be present with sensitivity and care. \nIn this world so in need of love\, the beautiful Buddhist practices of mettā\, karunā (compassion)\, muditā (appreciative joy)\, and upekkhā (equanimity) offer us a time-tested\, effective means to bring more of these healing qualities into our experience and the world we share. \nTogether\, we will explore these powerful energies by actually practicing with meditations that are designed to support and evoke them. Over the course of our time together we’ll explore each of the brahmaviharas with time for questions and reflection. \nThis event is appropriate for all levels of practice\, all that is needed is curiosity and your presence! \nIn-person Participants will meet at Unitarian Universalist Church of the Desert (UUCOD). The facility requires that all who enter are vaccinated. If you have not shown proof of vaccination before\, please be prepared to show it at the door.
