SUMMARY:A Day of Mindfulness: Ancient Wisdom for Current Times
DESCRIPTION:Daylong With Beth Mulligan and Nana Korantema\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGive yourself and practitioner friends the gift of experiencing mindfulness together\, primarily in silence. Our time together will be spent on practices focused on reducing the long term health effects of stress on the body and mind. These practices from Dr. Jon Kabata-Zinn’s Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction program are founded on 2\,500 years of Buddhist teachings and 40 years of evidenced based research\, \n\n\n\nDuring the day we will flow seamlessly between gentle Yoga\, Qigong based Mindful Movement (accessible for everyone)\, sitting\, walking practice\, and a Dharma talk. We will practice mindful eating during the 30 minutes lunch break. \n\n\n\nJoin us in doing our part\, one by one\, to create a safer\, saner\, and more peaceful world. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nBeth Mulligan \n\n\n\nBeth Mulligan Beth Mulligan has completed all steps of the professional Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) teacher training program through the University of Massachusetts under Jon Kabat-Zinn PhD and his colleagues and is a certified MBSR teacher. \n\n\n\nShe is a long time student of Charles Tenshin Fletcher- Abbot of Yokoji Zen Mountain Center\, where she practices\, trains and has lived in residence. Beth is a certified Hatha Yoga Instructor and holds a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. \n\n\n\nBeth’s passion is teaching meditation in a way that makes everyone feel welcome and at home. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nNana Panyin Korantema Pierce Williams Ayeboafo\, MS\, CMT\n\n\n\nNana Korantema is a qualified MBSR Teacher\, on the certification pathway through the UCSD Mindfulness Based Professional Training Institute. For more than 20 years\, she has been an educator\, counselor\, and senior priest practitioner (Nana Okomfo Panyin) in the Akom Tradition\, Ghana\, West Africa. \n\n\n\nBy embracing mindfulness meditation\, Nana Korantema serves as a bridge between traditional practice and modern existence. She remains humbled by the healing powers of compassion\, forgiveness\, and love. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCost:  Suggested Registration $35 with sliding scale. This eight week program is designed to bring greater ease and well being to your daily life by combining the skills of mindfulness and self-compassion. This combination is a powerful tool for emotional resilience. \n\n\n\nBeth Mulligan is graciously donating all proceeds from the class to Insight Community of the Desert to help us overcome our current budget shortfalls. Please consider making additional donations to support our sangha or to help people attend who might not otherwise be able to participate.  \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nWhat is Mindful Self Compassion (MSC)?\n\n\n\nMiindful Self Compassion was developed by Christopher K. Germer\, PhD\, leader in the integration of mindfulness and psychotherapy (www.MindfulSelfCompassion.org) and Kristin Neff\, PhD\, pioneering researcher in the field of self-compassion (www.Self-Compassion.org). \n\n\n\nMindfulness is the first step in emotional healing—being able to turn toward and acknowledge our difficult thoughts and feelings (such as inadequacy\, sadness\, anger\, confusion) with a spirit of openness and curiosity. Self-compassion involves responding to these difficult thoughts and feelings with kindness\, sympathy and understanding so that we soothe and comfort ourselves when we’re hurting. MSC is a compassion skills building class\, not a meditation class. It is a great follow up to any other Mindfulness program (MBSR\, Mindful Eating etc.) \n\n\n\nMSC can be learned by anyone. In this program you’ll learn: \n\n\n\nhow to stop being so hard on yourselfhow to handle difficult emotions with greater easehow to motivate yourself with encouragement rather than criticismhow to transform difficult relationships\, both old and newmindfulness and self-compassion practices for home and everyday lifethe theory and research behind mindful self-compassionhow to become your own best teacher\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Teacher\n\n\n\nBeth Mulligan\, PA-C is a certified MBSR teacher\, teacher trainer\, and adjunct faculty through the UMASS Center for Mindfulness. She has been teaching MBSR for over a decade to diverse populations; from the critically ill\, to non-profit organizations\, the underserved\, educators\, and corporate leaders. Beth teaches the 10-week and nine-day practicum for teachers in training nationally and internationally. Beth is a certified Mindful Self-Compassion teacher and teacher trainer and does international training for the Center for Mindful Self-Compassion. \n\n\n\nShe is a long time student of Charles Tenshin Fletcher- Abbot of Yokoji Zen Mountain Center\, where she practices\, trains and has lived in residence. She has also attended retreats with Thich Nhat Hanh and Pema Chodron. Beth is a certified Hatha Yoga Instructor and holds a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. \n\n\n\nHer passion is teaching meditation in a way that makes everyone feel welcome and at home. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCost: $395. Fee includes eight 2.5 hr sessions\, one 4 hour retreat and all materials. SUMMARY:Deepen Your Practice: Group Interview Sessions with Cheryl Slean
DESCRIPTION:Take your meditation and dharma understanding to the next level with monthly online group interviews with Cheryl. The meetings will be similar to group interviews at a retreat\, where several people meet together with the teacher to get feedback on their practice questions and reports. This is an opportunity for serious meditators with a regular practice to receive individual guidance from an experienced meditation teacher\, as well as learning from others’ interactions with the teacher. \n\n\n\nAll experience levels are welcome\, as long as participants have a daily meditation practice and a commitment to attend silent retreats when conditions allow. \n\n\n\nCost:  This program is being offered on a dana (generosity donation) basis.  More than ever\, we see how deeply interrelated we are. Supporting our sangha and our teachers through the practice of dana is an act of wisdom\, compassion\, and love. Thank you. \n\n\n\nPre-registration is required for each class. A one hour class will allow Q&A with 6-8 people\, chosen first come\, first served from the registration list. To allow for no-shows\, we will slightly over-book the class. Any registrants who are not heard due to time will be offered the option to go to the top of the list for the next meeting. \n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\nAfter registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. The link you receive is unique to you. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Teacher\n\n\n\n Cheryl Slean has practiced Insight meditation intensively since 1995\, including hundreds of days of silent retreat. She was authorized to teach in 2007 and leads classes and residential retreats worldwide. In the secular mindfulness world\, Cheryl has a Certification in Mindfulness Facilitation from UCLA and has taught at many health & wellness\, addiction recovery and business settings as well as online with Mindful Schools. Cheryl is also a writer\, filmmaker and educator in the arts and sustainability\, and is currently working on social impact climate communication with the Natural Resources Defense Council.
