DESCRIPTION:Yay! Our first time marching as a community\, supporting our LGBTQ+ community. Letting Palm Springs know that we are here as a refuge for all people\, especially those marginalized by dominant culture. And! We get to march with our friends from UUCOD and Desert Outreach Synagogue.  We will be walking behind our new banner (pictured above)\, wearing our new ICD t-shirts. \n\nIf you would like to march with us\, please attend our organizing meeting on Sunday\, October 27 @ 6 pm (just after the Dharma talk).  We’ll tell you when and where you need to meet on parade day\, share the safety details and distribute t-shirts. We have ordered shirts for those on our sign-up list\, but don’t worry if you are not on the list.  We ordered extra shirts.  Please be prepared to reimburse us $20 for each shirt. \nWe’re very excited to march as a community: LGBTQ+ and straight allies we can all celebrate together. \n

SUMMARY:A Day Dedicated to the Practice of Finding Love with Arinna Weisman
DESCRIPTION:It is said by the great Dzogchen teachers there is unconditional love that lives inside each of us. We don’t always experience this love all the time because of the obstructions or the hindrances that cover the heart. The love we may feel on different occasions is a thin sliver escaping from this great capacity and indicates its presence. On this day we will explore how to build access to this shining heart of love as well as explore the clouds that cover it. \nArinna Weisman has been studying meditation practice since 1979 and has been teaching since 1989. Her dharma practice and teaching have been infused with her political and environmental activism. She was the first out queer teacher with Eric Kolvig to lead insight meditation retreats for the Gay\, Lesbian\, Bisexual\, Transgender\, Gender Queer community. DESCRIPTION:We are extremely fortunate to welcome guest teachers Carol Cano and Noliwe Alexander to Insight Community of the Desert. They will offer reflections on healing the heart through the sweet medicines of compassion\, power and love. They are deeply skilled teachers and deeply connected spiritual friends (kalyana mitta) of our founding teacher\, Larry Yang. Please help us to warmly welcome them as they will have just finished teaching a retreat at Joshua Tree. \n Dr. Carol Cano\, PhD\, began practicing over 30 years ago at Wat Kow Tahm in Thailand and is active internationally in building communities and teaching Dharma. She has been trained at Spirit Rock and is currently in their Retreat Teacher Training. Carol is a core teacher and former board member of East Bay Meditation Center. Carol co-founded Philippine Insight Meditation Community in Philippines. Her unique teachings are deeply grounded in Basque\, Native American and Buddhist influences that braid the Dharma along indigenous wisdom and Earth-based practices. Carol reminds us to keep groundedded in our hearts as we uphold spiritual ideals and encourages us to remain balanced within the demands of modern life. DESCRIPTION:A beautiful opportunity to practice with ICD teachers and friends from Sunday to Sunday.  \nBegin the new year supported by these great practice opportunities: \n\n\nSunday\, 12/29 4:30pm\, sit and dharma talk with Ian Challis \n\n\nMonday\, 12/30 6:30pm\, “Motivating Ourselves with Love and Compassion\,” sit and dharma talk with Beth Mulligan. \n\n\nTuesday\, 12/31 6:30pm\, New Year’s Eve sit and dharma talk with Jokai Blackwell. \n\n\nWednesday\, 1/1 6:30pm\, short sit and chanting of refuges and precepts with Ian Challis. \n\n\nThursday\, 1/2 6:30pm\, “Simply Walk” an exploration of the powerful practice of walking meditation\, with Lorene Jabola. \n\n\nFriday\, 1/3 6:30pm\, “Simply Chant” Sit followed by chanting the metta sutta and other traditional theravadan chants\, with Ian Challis \n\n\nSaturday 1/4\, 10:30am\, Meditation Instruction. An hour long class in the basics of meditation\, for new meditators or anyone wanting support around their practice.
