The basic principle is that all things (dharmas\, phenomena\, principles) arise in dependence upon other things. \nDependent origination can be contrasted with the classic Western concept of causation in which an action by one thing is said to cause a change in another thing. DESCRIPTION:This hybrid Sunday Meditation and Dharma Talk will be held simultaneously in-person and live online.  \nInsight Community of the Desert will once again be able to experience the gifts of sangha through in-person practice and teaching. All upcoming in-person events will be held at Unitarian Universalist Church of the Desert in Rancho Mirage. \n\n\n\nStarting on Sunday\, November 28\, we will meet at least twice a month on the 2nd and 4th Sundays. Our meeting time is set for 3:00 pm. We will meet both online and in person. Join us whichever way you feel most comfortable. DESCRIPTION:Beginning March 6th\, in each Sunday talk we will investigate one of the Five Precepts\, the Buddha’s guidelines for how lay practitioners can live in the world without causing harm and in harmony with others. \nThe Five Training Precepts \n\nNot intentionally taking a life;\nNot taking what is not freely given;\nBeing wise and careful with my sexuality;\nBeing wise and careful with my speech;\nAbstaining from intoxicants which lead to heedlessness.\n\nSila\, or ethical behavior\, is part of the Eightfold Path\, and training in the precepts are how we put sila into practice. When practiced in our daily lives\, the precepts offer a foundation for a life of integrity which allows us to move towards liberation and makes it safe for others to be around us. \nToday we will discuss the First Precept. \nWe hope you will join us for these vitally important teachings. DESCRIPTION:PLEASE NOTE: Sunday talks will be held online until further notice.\nBeginning March 6th\, in each Sunday talk we will investigate one of the Five Precepts\, the Buddha’s guidelines for how lay practitioners can live in the world without causing harm and in harmony with others.\n\nThe Five Training Precepts\n\n 	Not intentionally taking a life;\n 	Not taking what is not freely given;\n 	Being wise and careful with my sexuality;\n 	Being wise and careful with my speech;\n 	Abstaining from intoxicants which lead to heedlessness.\n\nSila\, or ethical behavior\, is part of the Eightfold Path\, and training in the precepts are how we put sila into practice. When practiced in our daily lives\, the precepts offer a foundation for a life of integrity which allows us to move towards liberation and makes it safe for others to be around us.\n\nToday we will discuss the Second Precept.\n\nWe hope you will join us for these vitally important teachings. Everyone is welcome.\n\nThere will be time for meditation\, a dharma (teaching) talk by one of our regular or guest teachers\, and time for your comments and questions.\n\nCost: Donation basis; there is no charge to participate.
