Insight Community of the Desert in cooperation with Mindful Way is please to announce Mindful Self Compassion. This eight week program is designed to bring greater ease and well being to your daily life by combining the skills of mindfulness and self-compassion. This combination is a powerful tool for emotional resilience.

Beth Mulligan is graciously donating all proceeds from the class to Insight Community of the Desert to help us overcome our current budget shortfalls. Please consider making additional donations to support our sangha or to help people attend who might not otherwise be able to participate. 

What is Mindful Self Compassion (MSC)?

Miindful Self Compassion was developed by Christopher K. Germer, PhD, leader in the integration of mindfulness and psychotherapy (www.MindfulSelfCompassion.org) and Kristin Neff, PhD, pioneering researcher in the field of self-compassion (www.Self-Compassion.org).

Mindfulness is the first step in emotional healing—being able to turn toward and acknowledge our difficult thoughts and feelings (such as inadequacy, sadness, anger, confusion) with a spirit of openness and curiosity. Self-compassion involves responding to these difficult thoughts and feelings with kindness, sympathy and understanding so that we soothe and comfort ourselves when we’re hurting. MSC is a compassion skills building class, not a meditation class. It is a great follow up to any other Mindfulness program (MBSR, Mindful Eating etc.)

MSC can be learned by anyone. In this program you’ll learn:

  • how to stop being so hard on yourself
  • how to handle difficult emotions with greater ease
  • how to motivate yourself with encouragement rather than criticism
  • how to transform difficult relationships, both old and new
  • mindfulness and self-compassion practices for home and everyday life
  • the theory and research behind mindful self-compassion
  • how to become your own best teacher


About the Teacher

Beth Mulligan, PA-C is a certified MBSR teacher, teacher trainer, and adjunct faculty through the UMASS Center for Mindfulness. She has been teaching MBSR for over a decade to diverse populations; from the critically ill, to non-profit organizations, the underserved, educators, and corporate leaders. Beth teaches the 10-week and nine-day practicum for teachers in training nationally and internationally. Beth is a certified Mindful Self-Compassion teacher and teacher trainer and does international training for the Center for Mindful Self-Compassion.

She is a long time student of Charles Tenshin Fletcher- Abbot of Yokoji Zen Mountain Center, where she practices, trains and has lived in residence. She has also attended retreats with Thich Nhat Hanh and Pema Chodron. Beth is a certified Hatha Yoga Instructor and holds a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.

Her passion is teaching meditation in a way that makes everyone feel welcome and at home.


Cost: $395. Fee includes eight 2.5 hr sessions, one 4 hour retreat and all materials. There are a few limited scholarships available.

Insight Meditation in the Desert

 

Insight Community of the Desert is a Buddhist Center in the Vipassana tradition serving Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley. We welcome you to our weekly meditation group and programs.

Mindfulness and Insight meditation lead to an open, joyful heart through the release of stress and suffering.

We offer programs for beginning and experienced meditators, meditation classes, daylong retreats, and weekly sitting groups. Whether you’re an experienced practitioner or you want to try meditation for the first time, please join us at one of our meetings or events.
